My name is Madeleine Gill and I am a Furniture and Hardgoods Designer based in London. I've designed across multiple product categories within retail and hospitality. I thrive on adapting to the design challenges that arise from working across a variety of projects. I am always looking to solve problems and learn new skills, continually working to enrich my design knowledge in order to create innovative and beautiful products.

SOHO HOME
LEAD GLASSWARE AND FLATWARE DESIGNER
January 2022 - Present
As Lead Designer, I oversee the design and development of all the glassware and cutlery for Soho Home. Starting with an initial concept, I will design a large number of new products that aim to expand and enhance our collection, exploring a range of new production techniques, aesthetics and uses. As well as keeping an eye on sales, market trends and new inspirations, an important part of the role involves working closely with factories and the development teams to ensure the designs are executed to a high standard.

July 2021 - January 2022
I was promoted to oversee all the design developments for the Tabletop, Home Fragrance and Decor categories to deliver the Spring/Summer 2022, Autumn 2022 and Christmas 2022 collections. I worked with the Creative Director on the Spring/Summer 2023 design concept and became the lead designer for all categories.

ASSISTANT FURNITURE AND HARDGOODS DESIGNER
Having started with Soho Home as an Assistant Furniture Designer, I worked on hospitality developments, designing furniture and lighting for the new Soho Houses in Rome, Nashville, Milan and Stockholm. A range of these pieces were selected and engineered for the retail assortment.

SAINSBURY'S ARGOS
ASSISTANT FURNITURE DESIGNER
Following the New Designers award, I was shortlisted for a year long graduate programme. Having assisted on multiple categories including Bedroom, Children's and Bathroom Cabinetry, I was then promoted to a permanent contract as Assistant Furniture Designer. I soon became Lead Designer for the Beds, Garden and Office categories, as well as continuing to assist on Lighting and Upholstery.

SAINSBURY'S ARGOS YOUNG DESIGNER OF THE YEAR
WINNER
The 'Stoirin' Dressing Table received the Sainsbury's Argos Young Designers Award at New Designers 2018. The dressing table uses interactive, intuitive surfaces and refined storage solutions to create a multi-purpose space.

NEW DESIGNERS AWARDS
VIRGIN ATLANTIC SHORTLISTED
The 'bioCANE' Collection was shortlisted for the Virgin Atlantic New Designers Award 2018. A series of handmade spoons, the project looked to investigate whether temporary use plastic objects could be made in an alternative, biodegradable materials using cost effective, common household materials. This included exploring mixtures of sugar cane and growing my own material from a bacteria culture.
